Villa La Gemignana is one of the properties of the famous Burlamacchi family.
It belonged to the family until the 1920s. Built during the Renaissance (according to Isa Belli Barsali remade from a building of the 1500s), it was initially a fortified family residence, presumably intended for controlling the flow of the Serchio river, which crossing through the countryside reaches the walls of Lucca about ten kilometer away. The villa was enlarged in the 18th century by two large wings, one of which englobing the adjacent private chapel. In the same period it was enriched with a typical Italian-style garden, enclosed between two spacious terraces.
